Habitat For Humanity ReStore Donation Guidelines
We appreciate your interest in donating to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. Our mission is achieved through the generosity and cooperation of many people like you. ReStore accepts donations of building materials, furniture and appliances.
Donations can be new or used, but all items must be in good repair and in saleable condition. All donations are tax deductible, and a receipt is provided for each donation. For income tax purposes, it is the donor's responsibility to value their donation. If you are unsure of an item's value, click here for a quick reference guide of suggested values.
*Appliances may be acceptable in non-working condition.
We do our best to assess the acceptability of donations when they are called in, but our drivers make the final decision whether or not to accept a donation at the time of pick-up.
When we pick up a donation that is not saleable, we end up throwing it out and incurring disposal costs that take away from our mission.
Where should you place your donations?
Donations must be easily accessible, preferably in the garage, on the driveway, porch, or on the ground floor. If the driver feels there is a risk of damage to the home or business, or there is risk of personal injury, he is obligated to leave the item. The driver will not remove doors or railings or perform any disassembly of a donated item.
Tax Deductible Information
We're often asked, "How much can I deduct from my taxes"? Ultimately this is something you may want to discuss your accountant. But if you click here you'll find a list of typical ReStore items with a suggested range of values for determining income tax deductibility. This guide is not all-inclusive and may not recognize special circumstances. In all cases, donors should refer to official IRS instructions for Form 8283, Non-cash Charitable Contributions, available at www.irs.gov.
